Obituary: "Lawrence J. (Larry) Shaw of Boca Raton, Fla., died Friday,January 6, 2006. A Funeral Mass will offered by his nephew, the Rev. Robert Mahoney, a professor of sociology at a Jesuit university. Mass will be at noon Friday, Jan. 13, at St Ambrose Church in Deerfield, Fla. Dr. Shaw had been a resident of Florida since 1969. At the time of his retirement from Florida Atlantic University, he was a senior tenured professor of public administration. He was highly regarded by his students who appreciated his sincerity and insights as a teacher, who was consistently reflected in the written student evaluations that were submitted unsigned by the students at the end of each semester. Previous to his academic teaching, he had retired from the federal government where he served in administrative and professional positions. The year before his retirement from the federal government, he was responsible for coordinating the U.S. Foreign Assistance program within the Agency for International Development, the departments of State and Defense. Dr. Shaw had earned degrees at Missouri, Harvard and American Universities. A hard worker and persistent in achieving his goals, he completed his doctorate degree when he was 53. He served on active duty as a U.S. Naval officer in World War II. He was recalled to active duty in the Korean War and assigned to the Bureau of Naval Personnel to prepare a management study. Survivors include a son, Jim, a retired residential contractor of Boca Raton; a daughter, Jean, a practicing psychologist of California; and grandchildren, Beth and Dave Norelli of California. He was preceeded in death in 1998 by his beloved wife of 57 years."
